Hi, I’m Jewels: mom, artist, and creative encourager. I love helping others discover the joy of making things. In the pursuit of connecting people with their inner artist, I’ve had the privilege to help with art programs in my local communities. At my kids’ school, I’ve taught fun, skill-building art projects in classrooms for the past seven years. I’ve also worked professionally as a creative director, putting together mood boards and visual stories designed to inspire. Through my church community, I’ve hosted craft workshops for women, creating spaces for them to slow down and romanticize the little bits of magic we make with our hands.
As an English major who is enamored by vintage objects and folk art, I’ve always been obsessed with stories, color palettes, and textures. During the process of experimenting with art media such as fabric, thread, wires, yarn, paper maché, paint, pastels, and more, I found my love of appliqué. I am forever inspired by how the layering, beading, and stitching in fiber art adds so much warmth and coziness to its surrounding space, and how the process of crafting itself feels like a journey from conception to completion.
When I teach a workshop or an art class, I like to remind both adults and children that art is never wrong. Fellow women have shown how they open up when we craft together and take a mental break from their daily routines. Children light up and want to explore at the opportunity to use a new medium or technique. I’m grateful to contribute to the way that art opens doors within and between people.
